ASTRO — Association of Short-Term Rental Owners

About our images

Every image on ASTRO comes from one of four places, and we say which.

Where our images come from

  • Owners' own photos. Photos of a property come from its owner or manager, usually the property's own booking website.
  • Businesses' own images. An experience or service provider's photo comes from that business's own website and is credited to it.
  • Licensed photos. Photos from sources such as Wikimedia Commons or Pexels carry their full credit: title, author, source and license.
  • Images ASTRO makes. Illustrations, guide covers and City Portraits are made by ASTRO with AI image tools and reviewed by people before they are published. City Portraits are directed for ASTRO by J. Hamilton Studio, our in-house studio. They are paintings, never photographs of a place.

What we never do

  • Present an AI-made image as a photograph, or as made by hand.
  • Use a listing photo from a booking site such as Airbnb, Vrbo or Booking.com.
  • Put our name on someone else's work. A photo we did not make keeps its own credit.

Asking for an image to be removed

Use the “Request removal” link under the image, or the image removal form. An image we remove is not added back automatically. For anything else, write to prudence@theastro.org.
