Summary of the rule
The Town of South Kingstown Rental Registration ordinance (Code Ch. 9 Sec. 9-200 to 9-210) is NOW IN EFFECT for 2026: every rental unit must register annually with the Town ($300.00 per unit for rentals of 30 days or less). The Nov. 13, 2024 non-enforcement suspension (adopted after the Oct 2024 Narragansett injunction) has ENDED — its published window closed 12/31/2025 and the 2026 registration deadline was extended to 3/31/2026. In-force ministerial STR registration + whole-home permitted + no cap.

Active litigation / open question
Narragansett 2100 v. Town of Narragansett — RI Superior Court (Washington County) preliminarily enjoined/struck down Narragansett's STR ordinance (permit cap + 7-night minimum) beginning Oct 2, 2024; litigation ongoing. This neighboring-town decision is the direct cause of South Kingstown suspending enforcement of its own STR ordinance (SK's ordinance was not itself enjoined). Source ↗

A city permit is not the whole picture — HOA, condominium, deed, or lease rules may be stricter.
City Watch provides good-faith summaries of publicly available information as of the review date shown. Rules, enforcement, and permit availability can change, and summaries may contain errors or omissions. Ratings describe the general regulatory environment; they do not establish whether a particular property or stay is permitted. This is general information, not legal advice.
