The Westport Maritime Museum is housed in a five-building complex that was formerly a U.S. Coast Guard station, completed in 1940. Visitors can explore exhibits on the maritime history of the South Beach, including the Coast Guard, shipwrecks, and whaling. The museum also features natural history displays, a marine mammal exhibit with a minke and gray whale, and the Destruction Island Lens. Outdoor exhibits showcase sea mammal skeletons and a scale-model of the former Coast Guard station.
