About Newsome House Museum & Cultural Center
The Newsome House is an elegantly restored 1899 Queen Anne residence that served as the hub of Newport News' African-American community in the early 20th century. The home was the first structure owned by an African-American to receive a National Historic Preservation Award. Today it operates as a museum and cultural center, hosting exhibitions and community events that celebrate the legacy of prominent attorney J. Thomas Newsome.
