The Powder Magazine is a museum in Charleston, SC, and South Carolina's oldest government building, completed in 1713. It served as a gunpowder storage facility from 1713-1748 and during the American Revolution. Today, visitors can explore Charleston's colonial period within this last standing component of the city's original fortifications. The building was saved from demolition and opened to the public in 1903 by The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of South Carolina.
