About Fort Sumter History Museum
Fort Sumter is a historical fort located in the middle of Charleston Harbor. Its construction proceeded as Charleston moved towards secession. On April 12, 1861, the Confederacy fired on its US garrison, opening the Civil War. The fort is only accessible by ferry rides through Fort Sumter Tours.
