About Old Colony House
The Newport Colony House, built between 1739 and 1741, is the fourth oldest statehouse still standing in the United States. Designed by Richard Munday, it housed Rhode Island’s Colonial government and later served as a courthouse. Today, it functions as a historic museum and exhibit space, offering tours, living history events, and educational programs. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1962.
