About Grumblethorpe
Grumblethorpe is a museum in Philadelphia, PA, originally built in 1744 by John Wister as a family country home. Constructed of local Wissahickon schist and oak timbers, the house is a prime example of Germantown architecture. It served as a British headquarters during the Battle of Germantown in 1777. PhilaLandmarks has restored and furnished the house and cultivated its gardens to reflect the Wister family's interests.
