About Stone Iron Furnace Museum
The Besaw Iron Furnace Interpretive Center showcases New Hampshire's only standing blast furnace, an octagonal stone stack that is all that remains of a 200-year-old iron smelter. This 32ft tall furnace, built of local granite, bears an inscription from S. Pettee, Jr. 1859, its last known foreman. Inside the Interpretive Center, visitors can see a scale model of the furnace and its original shed, along with an ore cart, stove, kettles, tools, and panels explaining the iron production process.
