About Burgwin - Wright House
The Burgwin-Wright House and Gardens, built in 1770, is Wilmington's only colonial-era structure open to the public. As a museum house, it showcases Georgian architecture and 18th and 19th century antiques, offering a glimpse into pre-revolutionary Wilmington life. Visitors can explore its colonial style gardens, which span an acre with seven distinct areas, and see vestiges of the former city jail on which it was built, including jail cells and a kitchen house. Guided tours share stories of the people who lived and worked there.
