The Herbert Van Oort Boathouse exhibits one of the finest collections of wooden rescue boats used by the United States Lifesaving Service and Coast Guard. It houses four fully restored examples, including the 1881 Merryman and a 1950s 36ft motor lifeboat, all within a replica Coast Guard boathouse. The boathouse also features information on Great Lakes Coast Guard stations, a Fresnel lens, and a lyle gun and breeches buoy display.
