About Stuart House City Museum
The Stuart House City Museum on Mackinac Island, Michigan, is one of several buildings that were central to John Jacob Astor's Great Lakes fur trade in the 1820s. It was built in 1817 to house the resident agent of Astor's American Fur Trading Post. Today, the museum features old photographs of Mackinac Island and many models of Island buildings built by Dale Gensman. Visitors can also learn about Cubbie the Mackinac Island Bear.
