About Mack Memorial
The Mack Memorial is a marble obelisk located on the northern edge of the Chatham Light property. Commissioned in 1903 by the mother and sister of William H. Mack, it commemorates Seth Ellis, the sole survivor of the Wadena crew, and his fellow crew members. The monument also remembers the seven lifesaving crew members who died in the attempted rescue, an event that marked the worst loss in the history of the Life Saving Service.
