About Mokupāpapa Discovery Center
Mokupāpapa Discovery Center, established in 2003, interprets the natural science, culture, and history of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. Housed in Hilo’s historic Koehnen Building, it features a 3,500 gallon saltwater aquarium and interactive educational exhibits. Visitors can explore lifesize wildlife models, artwork, and interpretive panels in both Hawaiian and English, bringing this remote ocean wilderness to the public.
