About First San Diego Courthouse
The First San Diego Courthouse is a reconstructed brick building, originally built in 1847 by the Mormon Battalion as San Diego's first fired-brick structure. This 16'x27' building served as a town hall, then as the city and county courthouse from 1850 to 1869. It also functioned as a meeting place, church, school, and polling place. The First San Diego Courthouse Association reconstructed the building in 1992 after the original was destroyed in an 1872 fire.
