About Avila Adobe
Built in 1818 by Francisco Ávila, the Ávila Adobe stands as the oldest surviving residence in Los Angeles. The structure features distinctive adobe brick walls hand-built with tar sealant sourced from the nearby La Brea Tar Pits, exemplifying early Spanish colonial architecture in Alta California. Today it preserves the history of Los Angeles's earliest settlement.
