The Virginia Museum of Transportation, located in Roanoke’s century-old freight station, has collected and preserved the Commonwealth's transportation history since 1963. Recognized as the Commonwealth's Official Transportation Museum, it houses a collection of steam, diesel, and electric locomotives. Visitors can explore interactive exhibits across Auto, Aviation, and Rail Galleries, featuring over 30 historical cars, a Jupiter Rocket, and a full-size Norfolk Southern SD40 cab. An outside railyard also allows guests to climb aboard various trains.
