About Historic Brownsville Museum
The Historic Brownsville Museum is located in the old Southern Pacific Railroad Depot, a Texas Historical Landmark built in 1928 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Inside, the museum details events leading to Brownsville's establishment and displays temporary exhibits on local history. Visitors can also see the Simon Celaya building, which houses an 1872 Baldwin wood-burning, narrow gauge railroad locomotive, Rio Grande Engine No. 1. This engine, the last of its kind, tells the story of the Rio Grande Railroad.
