The Wallowa County Museum is located in the historic First Bank of Joseph building, constructed in 1888 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This High Victorian Italianate Commercial style building preserves and presents items from Wallowa County’s human past, including Nez Percé, pioneer, and settler artifacts. Visitors can explore collections, many from the county's first historian John Harley Horner, and learn that Young Chief Joseph held his final meeting on the second floor.
