About Youngstown Steel Heritage
The Youngstown Steel Heritage Museum features the 1914 Tod Engine as its centerpiece. This stationary steam engine was built in Youngstown for the Brier Hill Steel Company and operated until 1979, powering rolling mill stands to produce sheet and round bars. Developing 4,000 horsepower, it is one of only two such steel industry rolling mill engines remaining in the US. The engine was cosmetically restored in 2014 and is currently under restoration to operation.
