About National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center
The National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center opened in April 1988 in Wilberforce, Ohio. It is home to one of the nation’s largest collections of Afro-American materials, including over 10,000 artifacts and artworks, 350 manuscript collections, and thousands of photographs. The collections span from the late 1700s to the 21st century, covering African American art, military history, and Civil Rights history. Notable items include Alex Haley’s typewriter, a Buffalo Soldier's buffalo hide coat, and Gregory Hines’s tap shoes.
