About Catawba County Historical Museum
The Catawba County Historical Museum is housed in the former Catawba County Courthouse, a 1924 National Register Renaissance Revival structure in downtown Newton. It tells the story of Scots-Irish, German, and English peoples who settled along the Catawba River. Visitors can see agricultural tools, handcrafted household items, and military uniforms, including a British Red Coat. The museum also features reconstructed antebellum parlors, Judge McCorkle's law office, a replica jail cell, and Dr. Hambrick’s 1920s medical office.
