About Howard County Center of African American Culture
The Howard County Center of African American Culture was founded in 1987 by Mrs. Wylene Sims Burch. It curates historical artifacts and resources that tell the story of the African American experience and contributions in Howard County and Maryland, with ties to the African Diaspora. Visitors can explore three featured exhibits: The Underground Railway, The Civil Rights, and The African Diaspora. The permanent collection covers over 150 years of Howard County history in areas like farming, military, education, and the arts.
