About Warkentin House
The Warkentin House is a Queen Ann-style home built in 1886-1887, offering a glimpse into Victorian era Newton. Visitors can step into the home of Bernhard and Wilhelmina Warkentin and see 80% of its original furnishings. The museum tells the history of architecture, design, and the Warkentin family, who influenced Kansas's "wheat state" status by encouraging Turkey Red Wheat and establishing a flour mill. Bernhard Warkentin also co-founded Bethel College and was instrumental in starting Bethel Deaconess Hospital.
