About Vandalia State House State Historic Site
The Vandalia State House is the oldest surviving capitol building in Illinois, serving as the state's fourth capitol from 1836 to 1839. This Greek Revival style structure is associated with Abraham Lincoln, who served in its House of Representatives. Visitors can take guided tours or explore historically furnished rooms, including recreated House and Senate chambers. The site also features a statue commemorating Vandalia as the terminus of the National Road.
