About Birthplace of Emmett Till
This site honors the boyhood home of Emmett Till, born in 1941 in Cook County but raised in this Summit neighborhood, a tight-knit industrial community. Till moved to this lot with his mother before 1942 and spent his formative years with family and friends before relocating to Chicago. On July 25, 2021, a commemorative sign and field of memorial bricks were dedicated to Till's memory, with proceeds from brick sales supporting the Emmett Till Scholarship Fund.
