About DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center
DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge encompasses 8,365 acres along the Missouri River, featuring diverse habitats including bottomland forests, tall grass prairie, and wetlands managed to support migratory birds each spring and fall. The refuge contains DeSoto Lake, an oxbow lake formed from a former river bend, and houses the Bertrand Steamboat exhibit in the visitor center with approximately 250,000 historic artifacts. Trails accommodate hiking, and seasonal fishing and boating are available.
