About Otero Museum
The Otero Museum documents and illustrates the history of Otero County in southeastern Colorado, covering approximately 1875 through the end of World War II. Its exhibits showcase transportation, military, postal, agricultural, business, and school aspects of life from pioneer times. The museum features a 1939 Plymouth switch engine, an AT&SF boxcar, a complete telegraph office, and an 1897 steam locomotive whistle. Visitors can also explore the Sciumbato house and grocery store, a National Historic Register site furnished to reflect the early 1900s.
