The California Golf Club of San Francisco, a private club founded in 1918 on 425 acres, features a course originally designed by Willie Locke and A. Vernon Macan, which opened in 1926 and saw later redesigns by Alister MacKenzie. A 2007-2008 restoration by Kyle Phillips used fine fescue grass, creating fast and firm playing conditions unique in Northern California for this walking course with caddies.
