About Dr. Richard Harris House
The Dr. Richard Harris House is the former home of Dr. Richard Harris, Jr., a Tuskegee Airman, registered pharmacist, and civil rights supporter who owned Montgomery's oldest Black drug store. In May 1961, Dr. Harris opened his home to Freedom Riders challenging interstate bus segregation, providing safe harbor and a strategic meeting place during this pivotal moment in civil rights history.
