About Civil Rights Marker
Official markers designate First Baptist Church and Clarence Thomas Cemetery as significant sites of the Greene County Civil Rights Movement. At First Baptist Church, students and community members held mass meetings. Student demonstrators also gathered daily at the cemetery and park on Greensboro Street to prepare for marches and pickets in Eutaw. These sites were central to the youth-led movement against segregation and mistreatment in local stores.
